Local charm and global influences? That’s the Just Mystic apparel range ethos in a nutshell. We love designing clothes that are perfect for wearing in our beautiful local environment yet will still look good wherever life takes us on our travels.

One of the secrets to the success of the Mystic apparel range is that our clothes are designed with durability in mind. Mystic coastal apparel is manufactured from high-quality materials and is offered in a choice of quintessential colors. Mystic hoodies and tees are not throwaway items to be worn once; these hard-wearing, high-quality fashion items last for years and will still look good despite frequent washing and wear.

Buying clothes that are made to last is something that is extremely good for the environment.

But what’s so bad about the fashion industry?

Sadly, the fashion industry is drastically contributing to climate change with 85% of the textiles we buy ending up in landfills. Frankly, the statistics are eye watering…

The average American throws away around 81 pounds of clothing a year and although some of these can be recycled, many materials are just not suitable for this purpose. In addition, the fashion industry is extremely wasteful. It takes, on average, 20,000 liters of water in order to produce enough cotton to make one pair of jeans and a tee shirt. The clothing is then shipped across the world adding to pollution. And once these items of clothing are thrown into landfill because they no longer fit or have gone out of style, all those valuable resources are wasted.

Sustainability starts from the ground up. We all need to do our bit at a local level in order to bring about global change. With this in mind, Just Mystic decided to launch a new and exciting brand of Mystic apparel based on upcycled clothing.

What is upcycling?

Upcycling means taking worn or unwanted clothing and transforming it into something new and fabulous. Upcycled clothing can be used to create beautiful new clothing with very little environmental impact that is perfect for today’s ecologically aware fashion buyers. And Just Mystic is part of a global movement that is led by many of the most exclusive fashion brands, such as Stella McCartney and ELV Denim. Here at Just Mystic, we may be a small, local company, but we are excited to be part of this growing global movement with our new range of Mystic coastal apparel.

What’s the difference between upcycling and recycling?

We’re glad you asked. The difference is easy to see. Upcycling uses the same piece of fabric and turns it into something else with no environmental impact. In contrast, recycling entails breaking down previously used fabrics and using the raw materials for different purposes.

Recycling sounds good but in many cases recycling clothing does more damage to the environment than it has benefits. This is because the process requires the use of chemicals and machinery to break down and shred the raw materials. Moreover, this process is labor intensive and uses a lot of resources.

Upcycling is a fantastic development for the future

At Just Mystic, we know how lucky we are to live in this magnificent natural environment. Our aim is to keep it that way by helping to reduce waste as well as create fantastic fashion for everyone to enjoy wearing. Just Mystic hoodies, crewnecks, and tees are already popular with customers, and now you can expect another fantastic new range of coastal apparel with our upcycled line of clothing.
